Sam Durant
Sign for Dar Jacir (يهووو الفتيت في دار جاسر), Sam Durant’s Sign for Dar Jacir was made in collaboration with Emily Jacir during his residency in Bethlehem. The lighbox sign is part of a long running series of electric signs that Durant has been making since 2001. Typically Durant transforms hand written slogans from protests and demonstrations onto the large format commercial signs.
In this case Durant asked Jacir to hand letter an old well-known Palestinian saying in the Bethlehem and Hebron area (Southern West Bank), ‘يهووو الفتيت في دار جاسر’ and then, working with local printing company, IDEAS to produce the electric sign.
