Al Nawss “The quiver of the branch by the wind” is a film about a Palestinian refugee questioning his yearning and belonging for a place he does not even know. Shot on 35mm and produced it 1998, Al Nawss is a short hybrid fiction, documentary and experimental film. The film produced by the national film center in Egypt “experimental film unit”, participated in many international film festivals and won the Shady Abdelsalam Best Film Prize at Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentary and Short Films, Egypt, 1989.
Majdi El-Omari is a filmmaker He received (BFA) in filmmaking from the Cairo Institute of Cinema in Egypt, and (MFA) in Film Production from Concordia University, in Montreal, Canada. After working in the Middle East as an assistant director and production manager on various feature and documentary films, El-Omari became a filmmaker, scriptwriter, producer and editor. El-Omari’s short films d’auteur have been selected in several international festivals. Standstill was his debut feature film. El-Omari lives in between Haifa and Montreal now is writing his next feature film “The woman of the bees” while teaching fiction filmmaking in Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem.
Majdi El Omari was an artist in residence at Dar Jacir this past winter 2020 where he was working on his latest film “The Woman of the Bees”.
This event was part of Dar Jacir's online program organized in response to the coronavirus emergency. Foregrounding solidarity and care our program focused on bringing together our family of artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers and dancers to lead programs and remain connected while we are physically separated.
